Rahul Gandhi may have inadvertently cited Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s son as one named in Panama Papers but what he forgot that in Rajasthan his protégé Sachin Pilot’s name had also figured in Paradise Papers. International Consortium of Investigative Journalists still has Sachin Pilot’s name on their website as minister from India who was found connected with off shore companies. Sachin Pilot is rubbing shoulders in the list with other distinguished gentlemen and women from India like YS Jagamohan Reddy, Vijay Mallaya, Niira Radia, Amitabh Bachchan, Manyata Dutt and Jayant Sinha.
Sachin Pilot was named in Paradise Papers in connection with a company involved in alleged Ambulance Scam in Rajasthan during Ashok Gehlot regime during 2008-13. Sachin Pilot was honorary director of Ziqitza Health Care for around a year duration. When company changed its status from ‘non-profit’ to ‘profit’, Sachin Pilot had resigned from the company as honorary director. Both, Enforcement Directorate and CBI are now probing the case. Other independent director of the company was Karthi Chidambaram son of then union minister P Chidambaram. The company’s founder was another congress minister Vayalar Ravi’s son Ravi Krishna.
Whatever is the truth of off shore connection will come out in investigation but if one sees the pattern in the case it is clear that three youth scion of congress families came together and formed a company which got contract in a congress ruled state.
Now when Rahul Gandhi has opened the Pandora box of off shore connections of politicians in India, he will have to brace for the impact of the boomerang in his face. Sources says that while travelling from Dholpur to Bayana, jokes were being cracked related to off shore companies and black money stashed in foreign accounts in the bus in which Rahul Gandhi and Sachin Pilot were travelling along with other leaders.
Rahul Gandhi has invited ‘carpet bombing’ from BJP led by Vasundhara Raje, who is fighting all gun blazing in a do or die battle in Rajasthan. Let us see if Pilot could take his flight off in Rajasthan over a bumpy runway after the Panama Paper comment and unfolding Paradise Paper controversy.
