GMR’s Delhi Airport wins CII National Awards for ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ 2021

New Delhi – GMR led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has won the prestigious awards of CII ‘National Energy Leader’ and ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ at the 22nd National Award ceremony for ‘Excellence in Energy Management’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Green Business Centre (GBC). The 22nd edition of ‘Energy Efficiency Summit’, virtual Conference and exposition on Energy Efficiency was held from August 24 – 27. Delhi Airport has been recognized with ‘National Energy Leader’ and ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ accolades for the 2nd and 4th years in a row, respectively.

The virtual event was graced by Ravichandran Purushothaman, Chairman, Energy Efficiency Council and President, Danfoss Industries Pvt Limited, S K Khandare, Director, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, GoI, P V Kiran Ananth, Principal Counsellor, CII-Godrej GBC and K S Venkatagiri, Executive Director, CII-Godrej GBC.

The objective of CII-GBC awards is to recognize the companies engaged in energy-efficiency initiatives that adopt best practices and technological advancement in their daily operations. The jury evaluated the participants on several parameters of energy efficiency and innovative thought process adopted.

“This award is a testimony of focus and dedication of Delhi Airport towards improving energy efficiency and promoting sustainable development at Delhi Airport. With this achievement, we have set up a new benchmark for our partners and stakeholders to follow. We are committed to exploring and implementing best-in-class energy-efficient solutions. We at Delhi Airport have been consciously working towards energy efficiency and adoption of new innovative technologies and implemented several COVID measures to ensure passenger safety as per new norms.” Videh Kumar Jaipuria, CEO-DIAL said.

Delhi Airport has implemented key energy-saving and emission reduction initiatives, innovative projects, and other environmental aspects such as waste and water management, climate change adaptation strategies, etc. These initiatives implemented by DIAL were highly appreciated by all the jury members. It is worth noting that Delhi Airport is Asia Pacific’s first Level 4+ (transition) accredited airport under Airport Council International’s Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme.

The ‘National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management’ was instituted by CII to catalyze significant and innovative practices for the energy efficiency sector, thereby facilitating energy- efficient and sustainable growth for the Indian industry.
