Vasundhara Raje on ‘Royal March’ after ‘Dandawat’ of Amit Shah

Just a few month ago, it was an open secret in Delhi power corridors that Vasundhara Raje has proven to be a failed Chief Minister in her second tenure. Top brass of BJP were worried about anti incumbency and its ultimate effect on 25 Lok Sabha seats party holds in the state. But as the summer gave way to monsoon season, the love, affection and bonhomie have been pouring cat and dog between Vasundhara Raje and Amit Shah- who is touted as ‘Chanakaya’ of BJP in Modi era. If all is well than what was the ruckus all about? And, if all was not well than why Amit Shah is on his knees before the incumbent queen.

There is a perceptive opposition of Vasundhara Raje, her style of functioning and her corrupt coterie in Rajasthan. Old guard of BJP pinned its hope on growing influence of RSS ideologues and Narendra Modi. But most of them are now either disheartened or living in slumber away from active politics as they see no hope for ‘ideology’ that original BJP stood for in Rajasthan. It is sure that it is not the BJP which ‘Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’ nurtured with his sweat and blood.

The 75 day long drama over the appointment of state president became a tug of war between Vasundhara Raje and Amit Shah. The ball rolled between them through Ram Lal, Om Mathur. Even PM Narendra Modi had a long discussion on Rajasthan over a dinner with Amit Shah and Om Mathur. Vasundhara Raje ultimately prevailed though she could not get appointment for her own pawn which ranged from loyalists like Laxmi Narayan Dave and Narayan Panchariya, all season coy-toy like Arun Chaturvedi, visible opponents like Arjun Meghwal or Rajyavardhan Singh and most eligible name for every post in Rajasthan BJP – who’s name crop up every time there is a vacancy at any level – Satish Punia.

Madan Lal Saini, an old loyalist of Om Mathur camp, was appointed as state president leaving Mathur’s supporters perplexed that whether to count it as a victory for Om Mathur or a defeat. Om Mathur remains unfazed by such estimation. Bhupendra Yadav is one person who has lost most in this tug of war over state president in Rajasthan. Yadav is now out of favor in Jaipur while Amit Shah Camp has always treated him as outsider. Fact of the matter is that those who fall from eyes of the queen never regain the old pole position.

However, general public, party cadre and low rung leaders are perplexed over the hype and hoopla in BJP. The lack luster state executive meeting attended by leaders from all over the state who were more interested in gauging the mood and the wind than to listen to the routine ‘You Can Win’ speeches by Amit Shah. The ‘Dandwat’ aasana of Amit Shah was complete in Jaipur and BJP cadre saw it from their eyes and returned home silently with mouth shut and eyes wide open.

Vasundhara Raje has come out all guns blazing after her conclusive triumph over BJP top brass. Raje has planned a 40 day long ‘Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra’ on a bus converted into a moving office and command center. There is no doubt that Raje is now leaving no stone un-turned to put a formidable fight against a divided congress. But it is yet to be scene that what she will boast about in public. A unsustainable water recharge plan – Mukhya Mantri Jal Swawlamban Abhiyan, a failed scheme like – Bhamashah Yojana, the panorama built with Dholpur stone at various religious sites, the dug up capital city of Jaipur which is far from being a smart city, Industrial development which benefitted only those close to Chief Minister or worsened law and order situation and crime ranging from lynching of minority to rapes with girl child.

The common man is silent in Rajasthan and more interested in enjoying the show before deciding his own fate which has limited possibilities and glass caged horizon. But mediocre leaders and money bag in the line of BJP tickets have got a clear indication. They now know exactly where the pie they are vying for is; and they are ready to pay upfront. Vasundhara Raje is having the last laugh in Rajasthan BJP and Amit Shah’s grin cannot be missed while Modi continue to keep a safe distance from the wily queen.
